How to Set Your Table

Dining tables can be compared to a stage on which the linen, china, cutlery and glass become the actors of a wonderful play. An all white table is always a winner as it is very pleasing to the eye. It can be seen as contemporary or classical depending on the china and glass wear used.

The same table can be the setting for different moods without too much effort. A little imagination is all that is needed! A white classic linen tablecloth is the best backdrop for this exercise. On it you can play with the china, use coloured glass, different types of flowers and vases, small sculptures or unusual objects from around the house, as well as decorative candles of various sizes and colours to liven it all up. A coloured monogram on the napkins will also change the look . They could all be the same colour if you preferred to remain classic  or you could use all different colours to achieve a totally different look.

Brightly coloured napkins are very effective with a white or black linen cloth. They contribute to a casual and contemporary table, which also exudes warmth and conviviality. They work just as well for a casual lunch party on a wooden or glass table.

For the more sophisticated events, tablecloths embroidered to match your china are worth passing on for generations, and are always deliciously effective. However, these need expert designing and needlework.

Basically, you can have fun setting your table with a few varied props like a stage designer. Enjoy yourself and amaze your guests with very little effort.
